March 24 Report

Today was the best day for paddling up to this point in the year. I set aside my spray skirt and enjoyed the relative freedom of wearing only one layer of clothing (aside from my wetsuit, of course--the water is still very cold).

The Great Blue Heron are back home again. I flushed out a couple of them in the 1-1/2 hours I was paddling. Bald Eagles are especially active, and I witnessed what appeared to be their aerial courtship ritual for the first time today:

The eagle in that second picture was perched in a tree in our backyard--we're still holding out hope that someday a nesting pair will decide to set up home there.

Enjoy these beautiful spring days, whether or not you get out with your boat!
